San Francisco, 23 June 2006 – All our team at vpod.tv is delighted to announce at Supernova that serial-entrepreneur Martin Varsavsky has invested an undisclosed amount in our company, and will contribute his experience and energy to the development of our venture.
Martin’s experience in developping young companies from the ground up will provide us with invaluable insight: Martin and his THIRD company Viatel invented call-back back in the early 1990s; he’s also the founder of Jazztel, Spain’s second largest publicly traded telecom operator, and of ya.com, Spain’s 3rd largest ISP among other companies. He’s most recently known as the founder of fon, a community-empowered company dedicated to building the world’s largest global WiFi network bottom up. He is also very much engaged in non-profit organisations through the Varsavsky Foundation.
Martin has shown constant dedication to promoting young European startups and entrepreneurs, confident that Europe can create global players. He has recently invested for example in web 2.0 startups netvibes and wikio.
Another important piece of news: the Spanish team at vpod.tv shall now be moving into offices in the same building as FON in Madrid.
Thanks Martin for your trust and friendship.
